Its been exceptionally busy in the Urchin workshop this last month, and I thought I would share with you some pictures of the new Urchins that have been made.

JUNIOR GOES TO THE CHRISTMAS MARKET IN MANCHESTER

This is is little video of a trip the little Urchin Junior took to the Christmas, German market in Manchester,. Junior has been made by my daughter Beth, this is her first mohair bear she has made from start to finish all on her own. We hope you enjoy the film.

Wow its nearly been a month since I last posted, I can't believe where the time has gone too and its nearly Christmas.

I have been really busy with orders and having lots of fun with the new "I Love Urchins" Group on Facebook, some of the pictures posted by Urchin collectors have been amazing and so funny, if you have a spare moment you might like to have a little look, with over 200 members there is plenty to see.

This is one of the many pictures posted by members of the group. These Urchins appear to by very naughty and upto mischief.

I have had lots of fun making some really fluffy big 15 inch Urchins this last month, and have lots of ideas for new ones.

PRETTY IN PINK

I did not realise it had been a month since I last posted....what happened to September! I know it was a very busy month for me, especially with the Hugglets show, which turned out to be a brilliant show for me with plenty of commissions and orders, so these will keep me out of mischief for awhile :-) but I must remember to keep postingLOL!

I thought you might like to see a few of the new 8 inch Urchins I have made for One More Bear in Staffordshire, and they all have a touch of pink.

Well I am going to say bye for now as I want to get on with my new 10 inch minty green, alpaca, wacky kitten as I just love the colour and I have the best part to do...the nose :-)

PIES IN THE BAKERY

I am busy making bears to take to Hugglets at the moment, but the time is just flying by, I do not know what has happened to Monday and Tuesday LOL!! I hope the time will slow down a bit, I have body parts all laid out in front of me, not a pretty sight LOL!! I have tried to be so organised but yet again the best laid plans and all that!

I have managed to finish off 3 little Pies for my Bakery, as I do like making them. They are Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie and Pecan Pie, I enjoyed sewing their noses with my new thread I have hand dyed. One I have dyed is a beautiful lemon, sage and cherry so that will be used on my next bear nose I think. I only wish the wool felt I dyed turned out so nice, I wanted pretty pastel colours and ended up with antique washed out colours, however they won't go to waste as they will work well for my Toy-Box Treasures, but now I have to do some more dyeing tomorrow, fingers crossed for pretty pastels :-)

It has been a busy time for me this last few weeks, and I have not really had much time to make many Urchins, but these little ones I have just finished and they are now asking me to show them to you before I get to work on my new creations I want to take to Hugglets. Gosh I think Hugglets is coming around far too quickly at this rate it will be Christmas again...OH NO!!!!!

MELISSA

Little Melissa is one of my 8 inch bent leg Urchins who is made from a pale biscuit German mohair. Her nose is embroidered with pretty pastel colours, pink, lemon, green and pale blue, and wears a very pretty hand knitted dress and matching sun hat in a mint green with pink flecks. She looks very cool on a hot summers day.

SAMMIE SYRUP

I love Sammie Syrup, he is such a colourful little guy, who is 8 inches tall. Sammie is made from a rich golden syrup colored, curly German mohair with matching coloured cashmere paw pads. Sammie has a cheerful hand embroidered nose in shades of lime green, tangerine and lemon, and you certainly can't miss him in his brightly coloured, hand knitted trousers and knotted style bell hat. - Adopted.

PRU

Pru is a picture of sweetness. She is a shy little 8 inch Urchin girl who is made from a buttery vanilla coloured German mohair. Her nose is embroidered in shades of mint green, cream and pale pink. Little Pru is wearing her "Sunday Best" dress which is a frilled edge hand knitted dress with a matching frilled hat in shades of mint green, cream and pale grey and decorated with cream and mint green silk flowers - Adopted.

JODIE

Charming Jodie tries so hard to be a good little 8 inch Urchin, but she does have moments of naughtiness . Jodie is made from a short pile blonde coloured German mohair. She has a very pretty embroidered nose in shades of cerise pink, turquoise and cream. Jodie is wearing a hand knitted dress with a lace effect skirt and matching hat with a turned up brim in shades of turquoise, blue, cerise, cream and silver grey.

TIM & TAMMY

Tim and Tammy are both 10 inches tall with soulful looking eyes which I have needle felted with lilac/blue and white detailing. Tim has a pastel pink embroidered nose and Tammy has a rose pink hand embroidered nose. This cute pair are both made from milk chocolate, tight curled German mohair with fudge brown cashmere paw pads. Coy Tim is wearing hand knitted overalls with knotted straps and a knotted style hat in shades of lemon, cream, mint green, pink and lilac. Sweet Tammy is wearing a hand knitted and crochet dress and matching hat in shades of lemon, mint green, cream and lilac.

DELPHINE

I just love little Delphine, I think she is my favourite with her cornflower blue dress and hat. Delphine is 8 inches tall and likes to sit with her bent legs dangling over the edge of a shelf. Her nose has been embroidered to match the pretty colours in her skirt.

SALLY SWEETNESS

Little Sally Sweetness is made from a pretty pale lemon German mohair and has creamy cashmere paw pads and inner ears. This little girl is 8 inches tall. Her nose is embroidered with lemon, cream and mint green. Sally Sweetness is wearing a lovely lemon and cream hand knitted jumper and pixie style hat with crochet edging and mint green satin ribbon bow.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my latest Urchins, I am now concentrating on making bears to take to Hugglets and perhaps a new design as well if time allows.

Well back to work for me I have a new Grog waiting to have his picture taken, he certainly is not a shy character :-)

Just a little bit of news, if you do not already know, but I have entered the URSA's competition again this year with 3 of my bears. PRESTBURY a large 23 inch bear, CUPCAKE who is my new design of 16 inch Urchin who wear shoes, and my new design for 2011 TEACAKES, Tea-Cup, Tea-Bag and Tea-Leaf.

FIRST ATTEMPT

I have completed my first attempt at a needle felted face on one of my Grogs. I usually do needle felted detailing on eyes and my larger Grogs have exceptionally large bulbous needle felted noses, but I decided to take the bull by the horns and try a face. My goodness I am now addicted and can't wait to finish my next attempt and my brain is bursting with ideas to do one on one of my wacky Kats.

I have stocked up with lots of felting needles and a packet of plasters LOL!!! I am very fortunate to have a good supply of local wool which I am dyeing myself so its all systems go!! I will keep you posted with pictures of my attempts.

Here is my first attempt Peanut Grog with a cheeky face and an open mouth. I did think I should have needle felted his nose, but I really wanted not to be predictable and thought to do one of my embroidered ones.

NEW IN THE BAKERY!!

Its been a funny old day today, I have been searching high and low for my little muzzle trimmer, I have turned everything up side down and still can't find it. I am beginning to think I could have stuffed it into a bear LOL!! The trouble is, once you mis-lay something you can't seem to stop thinking about where you might have put it.....yes I have even checked the fridge, those of you who know me, would not be surprised at me looking there LOL!! Fingers crossed it will turn up some day soon.

This week has been a busy week, I had lots of fun making three new Tea-Cakes for my Bakery web page and some new Dolly Doo's, (yes I did have the trimmer then LOL ).

DARBY AND CRIMPLE

It has been a really hot few days, which is not ideal bear making weather, but as I am totally addicted to bear making, it will take more than a heatwave to stop me LOL!!! but if I was to be totally honest the stuffing of a big 23 inch bear in the mid day heat, did make me wonder about my sanity :-)

Well my suffering was not for nothing, and I managed to create two Toy-Box Treasures.

The first was was Darby a big handsome boy, who is 23 inches tall, with beautiful amber glass eyes. He is made from an antique gold, mohair. Darby is a little different to my usual traditional bears as I normally remove all the fur from the muzzle, but I decided only to remove a little fur this time to give him a softer look to his face and also applied brown airbrushed shading, which shows off his lovely amber eyes a treat.

CRIMPLE

I have just loved making Crimple with his long goldilocks looking mohair, he looks and feels such a wholesome bear and has such an innocent look about him. Crimple is 16 inches tall and one of a kind. Both Darby and Crimple are now looking for loving homes.

I took a little break from my orders this last weekend and had a little fun playing around with my Urchin pattern and a pattern I used many years ago to create extra large headed bears. I thought you might like to see what I have created. They are called Teacakes and are 9 inches tall. I have had so much fun playing around with these little ones that I am now in the process of making ones in hand dyed mohair called Cupcakes.

A WEEK OF PINK

It has been a very pink week this last week, nearly every bear I have made has either been made from a pink mohair or is wearing pink. So I am going to make a really big effort next week and use another colour, but don't be too surprised if I stray back onto the pink LOL!!

A WEEKLY UPDATE

This week I have closed the edition of Prestbury. He has been a very popular bear and was made out of a beautiful fabric. These are the pictures of the very last one to be produced.

I will be adding 6 new Open Edition bears to my website during June and a couple of limited editions from my Toy-Box Treasure range.

This week I introduced my very first 16 inch Urchin wearing shoes, called Cupcake. I had to do a bear with shoes, as I am shoe crazy :-)

Cupcake attracted a lot of attention and was adopted very quickly, which has given me the encouragement to make more large Urchins wearing shoes, the trouble is I cannot make up my mind which ones my next bear will wear, it is hard enough for me to decide which ones I am going to wear, so choosing ones for my bear is a hard task! what is a girl to do LOL!!!

I have also this week finished an order of Dolly Doo's and Urchins for Bonnie's Bears in Las Vegas, who will be arriving with her very shortly.

Finally!! Today I have finished off a new 12 inch Dolly Doo called Katie, who will be making an appearance onto my website tomorrow with her friend Emily.

A TOUCH OF SCOTLAND

This weekend I completed a new 16 inch urchin called Jinty. This is the very first bear I have ever dressed in tartan, and I just love tartan. I now want to make more large Urchins wearing tartan, I wonder if I can make a Kilt for the next one LOL!!!

GIRLIE GIRLS!!

This week has been a girl week, with not many boy bears created, so will perhaps have to make a few boys next week I think.

The first on the catwalk is Baby Doll, a 12 inch Dolly Doo Urchin who just had to give you a big wave.

The next bear is Miss Pegg who is wearing a new designer creation, from the House of Jac-Q-Lyn LOL!!! Miss Pegg is 10 inches tall.

Showing off her new hairstyle is Lucy is a 12 inch Dolly Doo Urchin, who will be making an appearance with 9 of her friends next week at One More Bear, in Staffordshire, UK.

Talulah is next up, wearing her 1920's Flapper Girl style outfit. Talulah is an 8 inch Urchin.

Last but not least is Sweetdrops a new size of Urchin. Sweetdrops is a huge 16 inches and a very colourful girl. Just to show you how big she is, she has come onto the stage with her little 8 inch friend Janie.

BIG CATS!!!

I have been really very busy these last few weeks and have not had time to get my breath, and have been very slow on the blog posting side of things ...SORRY!

Its been great having so many Bank Holidays last month and a Royal Wedding too, this month is going to feel like a really long one now :-)

Its been a while since I showed you one of the wacky Kats, and this one is HUGE!!! 25 inches tall and very fluffy, with beautiful big green eyes. I am now itching to make a Trash Can Kat for some fun. This big kitty is made from a wonderful immitation Coyote fur. He was adopted very quickly and have now been swamped with orders for Kats, which is super as they are so much fun to make.

This is Mister Jones or Jonesy to his friends.

This is a commission Kat called Cheeky Charlie who is 20 inches tall and made from a golden yellow with brown tip German mohair, this big boy has big blue eyes.

I could not resist showing you my latest Dolly Doo Urchin called Josie who is 12 inches tall.

Well I better get back to my Kat making, as I really want to get started on a red Trash Can Kat.

DOLLY DOO's and NELLIE TOO!

It has been a lovely Easter weekend, with the sun shinning and plenty of chocolate, what more could I ask for!

Buxton Pavilion

Last weekend we attended our second toy fair this year and we had a really lovely day with a few sales and a gorgeous journey through the beautiful peak district to the famous spring town of Buxton to exhibit at the Pavilion. We are very lucky to live about half an hour away from Buxton so there was no need for an early start like we have to have when we go to London. It did seem a bit weird though being so close to a fair but I am not complaining as I do enjoy going to Buxton, the scenery is fantastic all year long regardless of what the weather is like, its a photographers dream.

I have been busy creating this week, with a new Dolly Doo 12 inch urchin (urchins with needle sculpted hands and wrists and big needle sculpted feet and a crazy hair do! )

Petal (now living in the south of England).

I just could not resist in turning my Chubby Bear pattern into a Chubby Elephant this last week, and here she is "Nellie" an 11 inch loveable elephant with a really squashy trunk.

Nellie (has found a loving home in the USA.)

I am now playing with the pattern to make a Chubby Hippo, as I just love Hippos.

Last but not least a little mischievous Urchin boy called Smiffy, he will have a little girlfriend called Ginnie but she is not quite finished yet.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

It has been many years since I have done a Toy Fair, as I exhibited regularly at these events, before putting my toes into the water to exhibit at a bear fair, and as I always had a very good time, and met lots of lovely people thought it would be good to have another go. So this last Sunday I had a stand with the same organiser I used years ago. So with bears packed up we went to Manchester. I am delighted to say we had a great day, the weather was glorious and we chatted for hours with old and new friends, and to top it all off sold quite a few bears. I can't wait for next weekend as we have booked to do another in the Peak District which is only 20 minutes from our house so this is what I call a local show. The thing with Toy Fairs they attract both young and old, male and female, but can have a tendancy to be leaning more towards trains and cars, but I did notice the attendance of more teddy bear exhibitors had increased by a lot, it was nice to see ones who regularly exhibit and attend at the Hugglets Bearfests, so this is a good sign I think, as at Toy Fairs you never know what you might find, not only the old bears and dolls but even a bear accessory and you even gain a wider public audience who you might be able to introduce bear collecting too as they might not have even considered visiting a bear or specialist doll fair before.

Just to show you I have been working ...PROMISE LOL!!! Here are a couple of new bears I made last week.

LOTTIE

Lottie is a 14 inch traditional style bear with a little hump, hockey stick shaped arms and long straight legs. She is made from a dense golden blonde, German mohair on a warm biscuit backing. Her paw pads are made from a fudge brown German wool felt, which have also been embroidered with black claw detailing. She has antique shoe button eyes and a black embroidered, thread bare "D" shaped nose. Sad Lottie has been aged and stained and even has the odd patch of fake darning, poor little girl!

Lottie is fully jointed and firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

This traditional bear is wearing a hand made, stainded cream and pink cotton print collar which is edged with a cotton lace trim.

MARTHA

Martha is a 28 inch OOAK bear with a hump, hockey stick shaped arms and long straight legs. This big girl is made from a pretty lavender/blue curly mohair and a beige curly mohair. She has large matt glass eyes and a big "D" shaped embroidered nose which has been waxed. Inside her tummy is a large loud sounding growler.

Martha is fully jointed and firmly filled, around her neck is a pretty blue and pink floral cotton collar, edged with a deep lace trim.

Seeing as I have taken a visit into the past, I thought for next weeks toy fair I would take along a couple of the style of bears I used to make back then, so it will also be a pattern re-visited too but with a few of my present day techniques I now use on my bears.

YUMMY & POPPET A COUPLE OF CHUBBIES

YUMMY & POPPET

I would like to introduce you to my two latest bears, Yummy & Poppet who are from my new range called "Chubbies" as they are all plump and chubby little characters who just want to be loved.

YUMMY

Yummy is a very plump 11 inch One of a Kind shy bear who is made from a very pretty pale lilac German mohair. Her paw pads have been made from a cream cotton fabric with a very pretty pink rosebud print and tiny black embroidered claw detailing.

This sweet little girl has very large, aged black glass eyes with white needle felted detailing for a soulful appearance and a large black, embroidered threadbare nose which has been slightly waxed. Yummy has been very slightly aged and stained and a few matching rosebud print patches have been added to add to her charm. She is fully cotter pin jointed, her head is wobble jointed for achieving those extra cute poses and she is firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing, but her body is part filled with polythene pellets and stuffing to give her tummy a lovely squashy feel, but still keeping a rotund look.

Yummy is wearing a pretty cream cotton and pink rosebud print bow (which matches her paw pads) with little rusty bells hanging from the bow tails.

POPPET

Poppet is the little pal of Yummy, separately the behave innocently but put them together and they are always upto mischief.

Poppet is a very tubby 11 inch, One of a Kind mohair bear who likes you to think she is a good girl, but when your back is turned she will be upto no good.

Poppet is made from an antique, dusky pink German mohair, her paw pads are a dark dusky pink cotton fabric with printed polka dots and have black embroidered tiny claw detailing.

This cheeky bear has very large shiny black glass, aged eyes, with white needle felted detailing for that cheeky look. Her nose has been embroidered with black perle cotton and aged for a thread bare appearance. Poor Poppet has also been aged and stained to give her a little look of a well loved bear.

This chubby little bear is fully cotter pin jointed, her head is wobble jointed for an extra cheeky look. Poppet is firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing, but her rather tubby tummy is part filled with polythene pellets and stuffing for a little squashy feel.

To make Poppet feel a little bit special I have made her a matching cotton print ruff which has also been aged.

I am back to give you my weekly update and just to show you that I have not been too idle, well maybe just a little :-)

I have been having lots of fun making two new bears called Yummy and Poppet from my new range of Chubbies who I will be releasing later on today, I think I might make a Panda Chubby next, but if you know me it won't be a black and white one. Not sure what colours to do yet, will have to put my thinking cap on.

As promised here are some pictures of my new range of very chubby bears called "Chubbies". I have had some fun with these guys and have today nearly finished a pretty lilac one and a dusky pink one, they just need some finishing touches, and the hardest part is yet to come .... thinking of names for them.

First one is Bashful who is 11 inches tall.

HEADS UP!!

Finally I can lift my head up from the large order of bears, which was increased to 150. They were finally completed and delivered this week, and I am relieved and delighted to say they were well liked. I did not have time to take pictures of them at different stages but here is a snap shot of a number of bodiless bears.

Today I am enjoying myself making a new chubby bear, this new range I have yet to show you as they have already all been sold, I do enjoy making these. I will post some pictures for you to see to in the next couple of days.

This is Punchinello a 19 inch clown from my Arts & Crafts Range, who I had real fun ageing and distressing. He is based on Punch from Punch and Judy.

Right I am off to get going on my new little chubby friend.

AFTER THE SHOW

We had a lovely day in London last Sunday. After a very long drive we arrived at Kensington without the usual detours. We arrived at 8.30am and there was already a queue forming. As soon as the doors opened it was busy and stayed like that for most of the day. We had a great day and met new and old friends (at this point I must mention my Revel friend...yes you know who you areLOL!!). I am pleased to say a lot of our bears found new homes and my new range of bears was well received, can't wait to make more. The next Hugglets is in September when we will be back in our usual place, I can highly recommend this show to any bear artist and to collectors who wish to be delighted by wonderful displays of bears from all over the world.

I have not had chance to recover from the show as it was back to work for me on the Monday morning wading through my orders. I am not moaning as I much prefer to be busy than idle as my head is always spinning with bear ideas, too many at times as it makes me impatient as I want to get cracking straight away onto the next bear idea.

Picture this!!

Mohair everywhere, bear body parts in boxes and special little box for all those precious little ears to make sure one does not escape, because if anything is going to do a runner it will surely be an ear LOL!! Then the big decision is what type and colour eyes am I going to use, the noses are an easy choice either black or brown, each bear will be different. Then the poor little bears have to go through the ageing process ouch!!!

Well the reason behind the need for so many boxes is we have been asked to make 110 bears for a very worthy cause (I will tell you more nearer the time for the event). So we are not only busy preparing for Hugglets next weekend but also getting together this order.

A TOUCH OF SHAKESPEARE!!!

ROMEO & JULIET

I thought with Valentine's Day approaching and a hint of romance is in the air, that I should make a couple of sweetheart Urchins.

After a rummage through my materials I found some beautiful deep red, curled mohair and a wonderful rich looking red cashmere fabric, so this was the start of my Valentine Urchins.

I just had to call them Romeo and Juliet!!

Romeo is an 8 inch straight legged Urchin.

Juliet is one of my new design of bent leg and arm Urchin.

I must have been bitten by the red bug as I just had to make a couple of Urchins with red noses. So I have made one called Strawberry Shortcake (I think you will easily guess why she was named this LOL!!) and her little brother Trumble.

What a miserable start to the weekend... Rain! and more Rain!

I have quite a few bears waiting to be finished, some need eyes, some need noses and others need to be stuffed, so my week ahead is going to be quite full catching up on the work I should have finished off last week, hopefully no more germs waiting to get me until after Hugglets :-)

Lucy is a 13 inch Toy-Box Treasure who is looking to find a loving home instead of going back to live in the Toy-Box.

This little girl bear is made from a pretty pale blue on a cream backing German mohair. She has beautiful blue glass eyes and a big cheeky smile even though her nose is a little thread bare.

A NEW DESIGN OF URCHIN

DUMPLIN

For awhile now I have been contemplating making a new shaped Urchin, and have finally managed to create a shelf sitting 8 inch Urchin with chubby bent legs and chubby bent arms. Harry and Dumplin are the first two to be created and both were snapped up very quickly so I am busy now trying to finish another pair called Romeo and Juliet.

Fingers crossed I will be introducing more of these shelf sitting Urchins at the Hugglets Bear Festival on the 27th February :-)

Sorry this was a short post but my daughter has kindly brought some germs home to visit from school to give to me, so my bear making has been a little on the slow side since last. I can tell I am starting to feel better as nice sweet goodies are starting to call my name again.

Inbetween making up a very large order of traditional bears, I have managed to squeeze in Enrichetto.

Enrichetto who is a large 19 inch One of a Kind classical, old style clown bear who is named after a famous Italian clown.

Enrichettos' head is made from a pale beige German mohair, his body has been made from a rich classical looking cream and gold, heavy weight fabric, which has been extensively distressed and stained. His paw pads are made from a thick quality taupe coloured German wool felt.

This striking looking bear has very large, aged, vintage black glass eyes with with needle felted detailing and a large waxed and thread bare black embroidered nose and mouth.

Enrichetto is wearing an aged brown, spotted cotton print ruff which is sadly a little in places to match is very special, tatty looking "Topper" and not forgetting the two large rusty bells on his big tummy.

Enrichetto is fully jointed, his large head is wobble jointed to achieve those extra sad and forlorn looks a sad and neglected old clown would have. This chubby looking bear is part soft and firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

I will be working on this very large order for quite a few weeks to come and I am also trying to make up a couple of new designs to introduce at the Hugglets bear fair, so Enrichetto is very lucky to be making his appearance with my work load being so heavy at the moment. You would have thought working so much I would not have time for meals but all I can think about while working is food and what I can have to eat next, this is not good LOL!!!

So far this week I have managed to complete an 8 inch Toy-Box Treasure called Shabby Rose, who has quickly found a very loving home. She is made from a very pretty pink German mohair and a pale pink suedette for her paw pads. I do enjoy making these little bears, the aging process is strangely very theraputic LOL!!

I have also finished today a new style of bear to be added to my Toy-Box Treasure range called Dottie, who is based on a 1950's/60's teddy bear.

DOTTIE

Dottie is 13 inches tall and has the look of a bear who has been lovingly played with and now left to sit quietly in the corner of an old toy-box.

This little bear is made from a pale blonde, matted effect German mohair and wears a hand made cotton playsuit, which has been aged and stained for a "well loved, played" look.

Dottie has sadly one or two nose threads missing, but fortunately she still has her sweet smile.

She is hopeful to find a new loving home very soon as she no longer wants to sit quietly in the toy-box but so wants to be able to play again.

Where does it go too??? Christmas has come and gone and so has the snow....thank goodness!! and with Hugglets on the horizon I could do with finding more time. It has been constant sewing and stuffing for me and it seems as if my Urchins have started to breed LOL!! as now I am being requested for baby ones, we will have to see what the stork brings to Hugglets perhaps LOL!!!

LAST TWO GROGS FOR 2010

These are the last two Grogs for 2010, and thought you might like to have a little look.

The first one is Marvin Meadowsweet, who is 15 inches tall and made from a dense, hand dyed mohair in shades of royal blue, emerald green and aqua. He is a very chubby Grog with a huge embroidered nose. Marvin was adopted very quickly and has found a home in California, lucky for him he is leaving our cold weather behind.

Lastly but not least this is Finola Flowerbucket who is 11 inches tall, who is looking for a warm and loving home.

Finola is made from a pretty hand dyed mohair in shades of pastel pink, candy pink and turquoise and there is no missing her large bublegum pink embroidered nose.

AUGUSTE

I thought you might like to meet Auguste, he is one of my red bears I mentioned in a previous post who I could not wait to get started on.

Auguste is from my Arts & Crafts range and he is named after a type of clown from the early 20th century. An Auguste clown is famous for its small hat. Auguste is German for "Foolish" and is considered the least intelligent but the most beloved of clowns.

Auguste is 19 inches tall and a One of a Kind bear who is made from a rich, classical looking antique red velvet on a beige back fabric which I have aged and distressed and complimented with two very large antique looking metal buttons with red button centres on his tummy. His large head is made from a pale blonde German mohair. Auguste's paw pads are made from a very pale beige, thick quality German wool felt.

Auguste has very large aged black glass eyes with white needle felted detailing and a large threadbare black, waxed, embroidered nose. He proudly wears on top of his head a small, matching clown style hat which has also been aged and finished with a very large rusty bell on top and around his neck he wears a frilled cotton print collar which is in red and beige and trimmed with beige antique style lace.

This classic looking large bear is fully jointed, his head is wobble jointed. Auguste is firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

A BIT OF A NIP IN THE AIR!!!

Well not liking to break a habit of a lifetime its time for me to post a bit about our weather. Well there is not much to say other than it is Sooooooo COLD!!! Too cold to make a snowman, even though we have plenty of white crisp snow. Fingers crossed this is the beginning of the end off our cold snap. I seem to go through phases of using a particular colour, for quite a while its been pink, but the last couple of weeks its been blue's turn. Perhaps I have been influenced by the cold weather we are having. However this coming week it will be a red week, not because of Christmas being around the corner but because I am working on large and small bears from my Arts & Crafts range in red and cream.

As we are due some snow this week I thought I would make a little Urchin called Snowflake, who is warm and snug in his warm knitted hat and jumper.

SNOWFLAKE

Snowflake is an 8 inch Urchin, who is made from a pale blue German mohair. His droopy inner ears and paw pads are made from a cream coloured cashmere fabric. His paw pads have been heavily needle sculpted and detailed with black perle cotton to give the effect of chubby little toes.

This little boy has large shiny black glass eyes, and a large embroidered nose in a wine and dark dusky pink. He is fully jointed, his head is wobble jointed for extra posing. Snowflake is firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

This little cute Urchin is wearing a hand knitted jumper and bobble hat in pale blue and trimmed with cream and two sparkling snowflakes.

A PATTERN RE VISITED

FRATELLINI

Fratellini is a 19 inch antique style clown bear, who's pattern I have re visited after more than 6 years, this style of bear is from my original Arts & Crafts range, which were mainly made from reproduction antique style upholstery fabrics, but this time I have decided to incorporate German mohair into the bear.

Fratellini is a One of a Kind bear who is based on the European clowns called Auguste which have white circles around their eyes with black detailing and red and black face paint. Fratellini does have the white circles around his eyes but instead of the red and black face paint I have decided to use the colours in his body and clown hat.

This quirky looking clown bear is made from a very rich looking red and black striped upholstery fabric for his body arms and legs which I have aged and distressed to give the appearance of a bear that would have come from the early 19th century, the front of his body has been complimented with two extremely large rusty bells to give the appearance of a clown suit. I have also made him an aged cotton ruff edged with black antique lace and a little clown hat to match with a little rusty bell on the top. His oversized head is made from a sparse, antique brown German mohair which has also been aged. Fratellini's paw pads have been made from a beige, thick quality German wool felt.

Fratellini has very large antique black glass eyes with white needle felted detailing and a big threadbare embroidered nose which has been slightly waxed.

Fratellini is fully jointed and firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

I have really enjoyed re visiting my old pattern and now have plans for a full range of these clowns, which will all be based on genuine old clowns from the past.

SUZIE SOO A New Soulful Eyed Urchin

This is Suzie Soo one of my latest large soulful eyed 10 inch Urchins.

She is made from a toffee coloured German mohair on a fudge coloured backing. Her large droopy inner ears and paw pads have been made from a fudge coloured cashmere fabric. Suzie's paw pads are heavily needle sculpted and detailed with black perle cotton to create the effect of chubby toes.

Suzie Soo has very large shiny black glass eyes for the eye pupil and pretty blue and white needle felted detailing to create very large soulful looking doll like eyes with long eyelashes. This pretty little girl has a large pastel pink embroidered nose with the hint of a sweet smile.

Sweet Suzie Soo is fully jointed, her head is wobble jointed for extra cute posing.

Cute Suzie is wearing a very pretty hand knitted dress and matching beret style hat in shades of heather, lilac and cream.

While writing this post Suzie Soo has just found a home in Alabama.

I will be releasing a new bear creation tomorrow who is a bear pattern I used many years ago from my Arts and Crafts range but who has incorporated a new look.

A LOOK BACK ON THE PAST WEEK

Well its not been that quiet in the Ellerton household, both Darren and I have been very busy creating new bears and completing shop orders.

I have had a lot of fun with a new large variation of my Urchins called Dolly Doo and Bubbles Boo and Darren has made a small Furgotten elephant called Hattie.

I am in the middle of visiting a past pattern all the way back to 9 years ago, and it is amazing how you can add new techniques and put a new twist on an old friend. This bear will be 19 inches and from a range of bears I called "Arts and Crafts" these bears were a either made from half mohair and half vintage fabrics or completely vintage fabric. These bears were all traditional in style but I have now incorporated the pattern of a bear I used 5 years ago called Sammi Rye, I think I have given the game away! yes this one has a Japanese influence as well as a touch of traditional, looking forward to doing more on this guy a little later on.

CATIUS CLAY A TRASH CAN KAT

Catius Clay is a 14 inch tall, stretched look, One of a Kind Kat with attitude and the scars to show for it.

Catius has been made from a pale blonde, scruffy looking German mohair. His inner ears, eyelids and paw pads are made from a pale beige cashmere fabric, however he does have one eye that is black cashmere.

Catius has very large blue enamelled glass eyes, one you can just about see through his bruised, black eye. He has a black embroidered, thread bare nose and the odd bit of black stitched fake repair work to mend his Kat wounds. Catius Clays facial features and paw pads have been heavily needle sculpted and detailed with brown airbrushed detailing.

This Alley Kat feels really sorry for himself with his poorly arm in a sling, cat scratches and a bruised eye. He is hoping to find someone to look after him and nurse him back to his naughty alley Kat ways.

Catius is fully jointed and firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

Chutney

I really like Saturday's it is a day when I try to play around with a new design or experiment with new techniques. I have an old film on the TV which I occassionally lift my head upto. Todays choice of film is Harvey with James Stewart and his Pooka called Harvey. I might even put on Hobson's Choice again after Harvey. The thing is I never seem to watch them all the way through and miss out bits, so have to keep putting them back on again to eventually see the bits I have missed. Today I have plans to try new eyes for a large Urchin and start a little panda bear who will be a Dolly's little friend.

LOOK WHAT'S DOWN MY ALLEY!!

This is Wiscus a new design of wacky Kat from the Trash Can range, it is great fun making this new range as your imagination can run wild. Normally I produce pretty, fluffy Kats with either a soulful look or a grumpy one :-). So to make one that looks like it has been out on the tiles and upto no good is fun.

Wiscus is 14 inches tall and a One of a Kind Kat with a very long stretched body.

Wiscus is made from a antique style, golden tan coloured German mohair, which looked scruffy before I had a hand to it. His inner ears, paw pads and face are made from a beige coloured cashmere fabric.

Wiscus's muzzle and paw pads have been heavily needle sculpted and detailed with chocolate brown airbrushed detailing. His ears are slightly blushed with a touch of pink, one even has a bit of fake repair work to hide one of his wounds.

This Trash Can Kat has orange hand enamelled glass eyes with beige cashmere eyelids and a big black, thread bare hand embroidered button like nose.

Poor Wiscus looks like he has been in many a scrape and rummaged through a lot of bins, but also looks as if he has not always been top cat and has the scars and a bandage on his tail to show for them.

Wiscus is off to live in California where I am sure his new owner will feed him well and tend to his wounds. I bet it won't be long before he is back to his old habits.

INTRODUCING HENRY

I would like to introduce you to my latest Toy-Box Treasure called Henry who is looking for a home as he is not very happy living in the corner of the dark old Toy-Box.

Henry is a One of a Kind 8 inch, traditional style bear from my award wining Toy-Box Treasure range, he has all the characteristics a classical style bear should have, hockey stick shaped arms, long straight legs, long snout, embroidered claws and not forgetting a hump.

Henry is made from an antique looking, chestnut brown German mohair, his paw pads have been made from a rich brown looking suedette. This little bear has small, aged amber glass eyes and a black embroidered, thread bare nose which is also slightly waxed. Henry has been aged and distressed, replicating the places where a much larger bear would have been a little worn from years of love and cuddles, he even has the odd spot of darning to add to his old world charm.

I have made Henry a small old looking ox blood leather collar with tiny little bells that I have also aged to complete his much loved look.

Henry is fully jointed and firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

SAMUEL

Samuel with his friend Ruben.

Samuel is one of my smallest Toy-Box Treasures, who is 8 inches tall and a One of a Kind traditional style bear.

Samuel is made from a traditional golden yellow (an original teddy bear colour) very short pile German mohair, his little paw pads have been made from a traditional golden brown German wool felt, his paw pads have also been given black embroidered claw detailing, this sad bear has the odd spot of black darning, especially where his fur has worn away, poor thing did not have much fur to start with.

Little Samuel has all my Toy-Box Treasure characteristics, long hockey stick shaped arms, straight legs and even a little hump. Samuel has matt black, aged glass eyes and a black embroidered thread bare "D" shaped nose which has been slightly waxed.

This Toy-Box Treasure is fully jointed and firmly filled with a heavy weight stuffing, but in his body he is softly filled with pellets for a beautiful squashy feel and a little stuffing.

Around his neck he wears a black antique lace bow sadly which looks a little worn. I don't think he feels to sad about being left behind in the Toy-Box as he seems to have a sweet little smile.

Anyway thought I would take 5 minutes out to show you what I have been doing this last week.

I have also finished making a black Bunniko with a mohican as a special commission for a surprise birthday present, so better not show the pictures of this at the moment, do not want to spoil the surprise.

Well its back to the grindstone for me, better get started on an order I have for a shop, I hope to squeeze in another little 8 inch Toy-Box Treasure inbetween as I am itching to do this one.

CREAM WITH THAT ????

Well food names have always played a large part in naming my wacky bears, and my latest Grog is not going to be left out. I just love Banoffee Pie with its thick layer of whipped cream and a slight dusting of finely grated chocolate, gosh my mouth is watering already and I have only come on to post to tell you about my latest Grog called Banoffee. Better get on with it :-) .............

Banoffee Grog is a very chubby Grog (I think he likes banoffee pie too) who is made from a rich chocolate brown with a banana yellow and cream tip, German mohair. His big feet and droopy inner ears are a lovely chocolate brown cashmere fabric. You can't miss his huge multi coloured bulbous nose and very cheeky grin. Banoffee is 10 inches tall, well he would be if he could stand LOL!!! he does prefer to either sit on the edge of a shelf, occassionally he sits upright for an alert look but every now and then he prefers the laid back approach and just watches the world pass by.

Well I am going to dash off now as the pie I have in my fridge is calling my name very loudly, there is no ignoring it anymore. Its so sad really I will have to give into temptation ....... BYE!!!!

THE TOY SOCIETY

Just recently I have joined an on-line forum for crafters and artists called "Creating The Hive". I am so pleased to have joined this group as there are lots of interesting blog posts to read and some very useful handy tips. Bear artists even have there own category which is expanding everyday.

This evening a member posted about The Toy Society, which I went along and checked out the blog. I am so glad I did as I just love the thought that creative people are leaving a little handmade toy in a public place for a stranger to find and keep. RUBEN 8 inch TOY-BOX TREASURE

I have been enjoying making an 8 inch version of my award winning Toy-Box Treasure pattern, and have created Ruben. Who is made from an antique red looking mohair on a beige backing, and beige suedette paw pads (well he did look these colours when I first made him, then I got my my hands on himLOL)!!!

Ruben really does look like he has been well and truly neglected for many years, hiding in the corner of an old toy-box. Well I am delighted to say a lovely lady has come to his rescue, and he now has a loving home to live at, where I am sure he will be well looked after.

I have a couple more 8 inch Toy-Box Treasures on the go at the moment, all based on traditional, classical style bears, to be like a smaller version of what I would call a "proper" teddy bear.

A GREAT START TO OCTOBER

Well after the months of waiting, the results have been published today for the final positions of the entries into this years URSA competition. I was over the moon to find out that my Urchins Jellie and Bean had placed in their category, but have just found out they came 2nd, which is marvelous. So I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to vote for Jellie and Bean in the first and second round of voting 'THANK YOU"!

Well the sun is shining, the sky is blue, just a little cool nip in the air what a lovely start to the weekend.

At present I am in the middle of making a little 8 inch Toy-Box Treasure who hopefully will be finished today, I do so enjoy making these smaller traditional bears, but find I do not get much time to make one as I hand stitch them. I have had a busy week preparing Urchins for a new shop. I have been delighted with the response to the the larger Urchin who is 10 inches tall, they are like the elder brother or sister to the smaller 8 inch ones :-)

HUGGLETS SHOW September 2010

Finally recovered from the Hugglets show. What a super show it was, and such a lovely day. Sold lots of Urchins and Grogs so I am very happy with the event and it was worth the long journey to London and suffering the de-tours around London....well to be honest it was our bad sense of direction LOL One time we will get to the venue without getting lost.

I just can't believe where the time has flown too since I last posted. Its been a busy few weeks, I have been beavering away creating new bears for the Hugglets show in London on Sunday. I have a new range of bears to show and I will be launching my new series of online stories "URCHINS - Guardians of The Forest".

Hopefully before the show on Sunday I will put a preview onto my blog of some of the bears I will be taking to the show.

Here are three wacky bears I have made just recently, two are adopted but just to tease, one of them is one who will be having a trip to London. Can you spot which one it might be heehee!

URSA AWARD FINALISTS - JELLIE & BEAN

I am delighted to say that I have been notified that Jellie and Bean, my pair of cheeky Urchins, have made it through to the finals of the URSA competition 2010. GROGS AND MORE GROGS

I am busy making new Grogs at the moment, and thought you might like to see two I completed on Friday.

Juniper is made from a lovely lilac, wavy kid mohair, his feet and inner ears are made from my own handmade wool felt and hand dyed to give a batik effect in shades of purple, lavender, lilac and blue. Juniper Grog is 10 inches tall with a really large bulbous nose embroidered with a hand dyed cotton to match his foot pads. Juniper is very lucky to be going to live in Texas.

Little Squirt is also a 10 inch Grog, who is made from a pastel blue on a cream backing, very wild looking mohair. His inner ears and paw pads are made from my own hand made wool felt which I have hand dyed to get a batik effect in shades of turquoise, pale blue, blue and a touch of lime green. His big nose is embroidered with a hand dyed cotton to match his colourful feet. There is no hiding these chubby bears big cheeky grins. Little Squirt is joining Juniper in Texas.

RAINY SATURDAY - AGAIN!!!!

Where has the summer gone to??? it has done nothing but rain here for the last two weeks. Ideal bear making weather, but not so pleasant when you have to go out. To make myself feel better (really I don't need any excuses to buy shoes) I have bought myself some really trendy shoes, but the sad thing is I do not want to get them wet heehee! I just had to buy them as they have anime style bears on them....at this point you must really think I have gone mad, well you could be right, but they are super trendy and I think every bear maker/collector should have a pair. No I am not that brave to show you a picture, you will just laugh!

Well better get back down to earth LOL!!! I thought you might like to see my husband Darren's latest Furgotton Bear called Newton. I caught him going through my mohair seeing if I had any good for him to use...cheeky monkey he has his own stash of mohair, trouble is his is not colourful enough for me so he is on a safe bet that I won't come knocking for any of his.

Newton found a home very quickly an is off to live with a lovely bear collector in sunny California.

I have been making Urchin elephants, its been awhile since my last one. This one is called Bilbo, he is in a wonderful heathery coloured curly mohair and his large droopy inner ears and feet are made from a dusky heather colour cashmere fabric. I just had to give him cheery coloured, hand knitted overalls to wear. I have another two to get on with, so better leave you for the moment.

MONKEY MAYHEM

Well its been Monkey mad around here, these are a few of the Cheeky Monkeys I have made just recently, I have just finished another 4 all with their tongues sticking out, they are so funny!

I have been very busy creating new Urchins, I have not even found time to continue with my new venture of my Blog Book which is all about my Urchins, which is a shame as I was very lucky to receive an iPad for my birthday this month so I can continue with my writing on my book on the go, you can only do so much with an iPhone, the iPad is brilliant and a great tool for any budding writer. I am itching to get back onto it, as soon as I have done a bit more to it, I will keep you posted and tell you where you can read it on-line.

I am trying to get my head around Facebook, well with a bit of help from my son, he does not know what he has let himself in for LOL! If you have a spare moment and would like to see some pictures, please take a look at Jac-Q-Lyn Bears on Facebook.

This is Fruit Drop my latest Grog, it seems like an age since I last made a Grog! Fruit Drop is made a hand dyed mohair in shades of lemon, pink, lilac and mint green. He did find a loving home very quickly.

Its been a wet and windy day today, ideal weather for bearmaking, so I have been making new Pinky Winkies and a couple of new Cheeky Monkeys, no bears today LOL!!

AMY - Pinky Winky

Amy is 10 inches tall and made from a pretty pastel pink Melton wool fabric.

Each Pinky Winky has a large button "oink" an embroidered wink for one eye and a button for the other, and not forgetting a cheeky grin.

Amy is wearing a primitive style cotton dress with printed pink roses. Around her neck she proudly wears her name necklace.

ETHEL

Ethel is my latest Cheeky Monkey, who is 10 inches tall and wears a pretty, primitive style emerald green cotton dress with a pink retro style circle print.
